The Snowdon Trust Financial Awards
Terms and Conditions
Financial Awards Granted for Charitable Purposes
This policy lays out the aims and principles of our financial awards and the range of specific checks we make. We can only fund requests and applications that fall within the objectives of the charity.
Payment of Financial Awards
Payments will usually be made direct to your educational institution or supplier on receipt of their invoice. We will provide the information you need to share with your supplier once you have been awarded a scholarship or a grant. We will only make payment direct to you in exceptional circumstances or when this has been specified as part of your award, including the living costs element of a Scholarship award.
Financial Award Criteria and Priorities
The Snowdon Trust will only consider applications that fall within our charitable purposes, meet our published eligibility and funding criteria, and pass our due diligence checks.
The number of eligible applications typically exceeds the funding available. Final decisions are made in line with the specific criteria for each award type, and with careful consideration by our expert Panellists. In some cases, additional input may be sought from independent professionals with specialist knowledge relevant to the applicant’s circumstances.
Applying for a Financial Award
We require submissions to be made using our application form. If the application form is not accessible, please contact us on [email protected] or 01403 732899 to arrange an alternative submission arrangement. Applications must meet the following criteria:
- The applicant is at least 16 years old.
- The applicant must be applying to study at a university or institution within the UK.
- All mandatory areas of the application form must be completed.
- The application must be written in English or recorded in British Sign Language (BSL). If you intend to submit as a BSL recording, please contact our office for further information before starting your application.
- The application must be submitted by the stated deadline for that award. No exceptions can be made for applicants who fail to meet the deadline.
- The person applying must have a disability that falls within the parameters listed within the guidance and hold UK home fee status.
We reserve the right to reject applications that do not meet the criteria or which contain language or statements which are inappropriate or offensive.
Duration of Financial Award
Unless otherwise agreed, all financial awards are made for the duration of one academic year. All unspent monies will be written back at the end of the year unless a specific extension has been agreed. Payment of Master’s Scholarship fee awards of more than one year’s duration will be agreed with the recipient, and the living costs element will be paid in equal termly instalments for the course duration.
Reporting On Financial Awards
By accepting a financial award from the Snowdon Trust, you agree to engage with us and provide reporting on how the funding has supported you. This reporting is essential for us to demonstrate the impact of our work to donors and programme supporters, who make our charitable activities possible and without whom your award could not be made.
Once your award is confirmed, we will share specific reporting requirements and timeframes with you. These may include, but are not limited to, submitting a written report, participating in a focus group, or sharing your personal experience through photographs or video content. By telling your story, you help us improve support for future students, raise awareness of the barriers disabled students face, and advocate for meaningful change. Your voice matters and we’re proud you’re part of our community.
Charity Financial Award Management
The decision-making process for each of our financial awards is specified in the overview document for that award. Awards are made entirely at the discretion of the Selection Panel and their decision is final.
Notification of Receipt of a Financial Award
All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application. Successful applicants are required to confirm their acceptance of the award before funds are released.
Confirming Receipt of a Financial Award
- All applicants must confirm receipt of their award.
- An award may only be spent for the purpose for which it was given.
- Any unused portion of an award must be returned to the Snowdon Trust.
- If there is any change in your circumstances during the year of your award, you should notify the Snowdon Trust as soon as possible.
- All awardees are required to report back on the impact the award has had, as specified in the reporting requirements.
- As appropriate and where specified in your award, supporting evidence such as receipts or invoices must be provided to the charity to release funds.
Checks and Due Diligence
The charity is entitled to carry out appropriate due diligence on applications to confirm the identity of the applicant and that:
- Any funding will be applied in accordance with the charity’s charitable purposes.
- Funds will not be knowingly used for illegal purposes, such as fraud, money laundering, bribery or financing terrorism.
- The applicant does not hold views or have any involvement in activities contrary to the charity’s values and charitable purposes.
Protecting your data
We will retain the personal details you provide in your application form for the duration of your award, and for as long as we are required to do so for legal, accounting and audit purposes, usually an additional ten years. For further information on how we handle your data, please refer to our Privacy Notice.
After your award has ended, we would like to stay in touch to learn how your career progresses and to offer opportunities for continued engagement. This may include invitations to networking events, career development activities, research participation, or contributing to long-term impact measurement. You may also choose to receive updates about the Snowdon Trust’s work and campaigns.
We will only use your personal data to contact you directly. We will never sell or rent your personal data to third parties, nor will we share it with third parties for marketing purposes.
