New mobility equipment grants programme
Thanks to funding from the Motability Foundation, we are pleased to offer an enhanced mobility equipment grant award. Please read the following information to find out more about the process.
Process
Application
You should make an application using our usual grants portal. We will ask you some specific questions about your needs which are explained here.
You do not need to specify a model or brand in your application. We just need to know what type of equipment you require to support your mobility needs (e.g manual active wheelchair, power assist device).
Assessment
If your application is sucessful, you will be invited for a virtual assessment with an Occupational Therapist via Microsoft Teams. They will use this assessment and the information provided in your application to make an equipment recommendation that best suits your clinical and environmental needs.
Award
You can confirm if you’re happy with the equipment recommendation before we order it. Once you agree and accept our terms and conditions, we will place the order with our programme partner, Lifestyle and Mobility. They will contact you directly to confirm the details and arrange delivery.
FAQs
You will be able to discuss this with the Occupational Therapist during your assessment. They will take your wishes into account however they may still recommend a different solution for you.
The Occupational Therapy will assess your circumstances holistically and recommend equipment that best meets your clinical and lifestyle needs.
We base our grant decisions on the equipment prescription provided by the Occupational Therapist.
If you are eligible for an NHS personal wheelchair budget, we expect you to contribute that funding towards the cost of your equipment where possible. We understand that NHS budgets sometimes come with restrictions, and we’ll take that into account.
If you wish to upgrade your prescribed equipment, you are welcome to do so at your own expense, provided the equipment remains clinically appropriate.
If your application is succesful you will be invited for an Occupational Therapy assessment by March 2026. We will notify you if this date has to be changed.
To process your application, we need to share your application data with the Occupational Therapy team and with Lifestyle and Mobility who provide your equipment. You will be asked to provide consent for this when you submit your application form.
We will never share your data publicly or with third parties without your explicit consent.
Lifestyle and Mobility are our primary partner, and they are able to source a wide range of equipment. You can browse some of their equipment here.
We will always strive to provide the solution that is right for you. If this cannot be provided by Lifestyle and Mobility we will discuss alternative options with you.
If necessary, our partner Lifestyle and Mobility can arrange for you to trial the equipment in person.
